RAMP has built a large community garden and three (3) school gardens in Martin County. The goal is to
provide the community with long-term food sustainability and potential income-generating projects from the crops that grow and sell excess produce farmer’s markets, or use for canning, food products, etc.The large garden yields approximately 8,000 pounds of fresh produce each growing season. The produce from the school gardens go into the school kitchens and are used for school lunches and snacks.
A large chicken coop serving the Homecoming Food Pantry community was also built, that provides more than 4 dozen eggs on a daily basis which are distributed to families that help maintain the garden and chickens and are served by the Homecoming Food Pantry.
It is RAMP’s goal for the community to also create a farmer’s market and/or food stand and sell any excess produce to the community from the gardens; food product ideas are also being researched where a specific food item could be grown, packaged and marketed on a broader scale.
